# Work with the CLI

The thally commands you will actually use day to day.

The default project runs with `npm run dev` and keeps the CLI outside your
site's dependency graph. Run `npm run check` for content validation and
`npm run starter:update` for a framework update dry run. These scripts use the
current official CLI so new scaffold releases do not depend on a frozen local
catalog. To use other commands without a global installation:

```bash
npx --yes --package=@thallylabs/cli@latest thally --help
```

You can also install the CLI globally with `npm install --global @thallylabs/cli`;
keep that installation current before framework updates.

## The daily loop

#### Run the site locally

    ```bash
    npm run dev
    ```

    Serves the site with search, agent endpoints, and the API playground
    live, so what you review locally is what readers get. Agent endpoints are available at `/llms.txt` and `/api/mcp`.

#### Add a page

    ```bash
    npx --yes --package=@thallylabs/cli@latest thally new deploy-guide --title "Deploy your first project"
    ```

    Creates the page and registers it in `docs.json` in one step.

#### Check before you push

    ```bash
    npm run check
    ```

    Lints content, verifies links and navigation, and scores how well the
    site answers questions for AI tools — the same Agent Readiness score the
    Cloud dashboard shows. Add `-- --fix` for autofixable issues, `-- --ci` in
    pipelines.

## Let the CLI write the first draft

`thally agent` turns a change you describe — or a merged pull request — into a
reviewed docs update:

```bash
npx --yes --package=@thallylabs/cli@latest thally agent "document the new webhook retry behavior" --pr
```

Wire it to your product repositories with `thally track add <owner/repo>` and
merged product PRs open docs PRs on their own.

## Everything else

```bash
npx --yes --package=@thallylabs/cli@latest thally --help
```

Translation (`thally translate`), migration (`thally migrate`), deployment
(`thally deploy`), and starter updates (`thally starter update`) each print
their own usage with `--help`.
